Murphy Bed to the Rescue

Children of divorce can find their worlds feeling topsy-turvy when one familiar home suddenly gives way to two unfamiliar places.  One thing that can help to ease this adjustment is to give your child a feeling of control over something.  Even when space is at a premium you can help your child create a special place of his or her own.

The Murphy bed shown here is designed to be open when a child is visiting.  Adorned with pillows in a favorite color scheme, nana’s blanket, and a child’s baseball trophies, toys, and family photos, the bed creates a cozy and familiar nest.   Helping your child create a personal safe haven may provide some equilibrium when the rest of the world seems to have turned upside down.

“I think many people–even those who usually feel on top of things– can become overwhelmed when faced with change and need some assistance in imagining new beginnings; fresh solutions. This is where I come in.”
