Living Happily Ever After … With A Twist

A couple had just finished creating a wonderful family room in their basement, only to find that their young children would not go down there on their own. Everyone was frustrated and miserable at this unexpected turn in the home-improvement plans. What to do?!

The goal became one of creating a kid-size, kid-friendly space in a safe and non-isolated part of the home, while maintaining the adult look, feel, and functionality of the home’s compact main level. Kathleen heard everyone out, learned about all the likes and dislikes, and designed a “secret” play space for the children in the bay window area of the first floor. Everyone in the family is now living happily ever after with this real-life make-believe solution.

“Finding out what kinds of things people love–what inspires their imaginations and nurtures their spirits–is key.”
